"Christmas is No Exception for a Celebration"

Christmas is one of the best holiday’s that everyone looks forward to, not only Filipinos but everyone in the world. As many of us know that when you mention Christmas, you think about “Noche Buena” where families gather and eat the prepared foods on Christmas eve, “Simbang gabi” where Filipino Catholics attend mass for nine consecutive days in anticipation for Christmas, Ber-months where Filipinos usually celebrate Christmas at the start of September, and specially the “parol” or what is called a lantern. But when the Covid-19 Pandemic started, only some Filipinos expected a merry and joyous Christmas. Yet, Filipinos managed to move forward and smile again for the Christmas season. Amidst the pandemic that we are experiencing, Filipinos found light and you can feel the essence of Christmas again.

The start of the Covid-19 Pandemic changed how we celebrate Christmas. Unlike before where everyone can gather without worries that a virus may spread, now we have to be extra careful and stay at home as much as possible. Schools required students to make parol during Christmas season back then but now, some schools haven’t yet reopened. But, in this year, the essence of Christmas is now coming back. Cities and Municipalities in the Philippines are lighting their own Christmas trees and they are also having activities and contests like parol making. Christmas season and the joy from the people seems to be back again after almost 3 years.

I feel glad and happy that the essence of Christmas is back. Even though there are a lot of challenges that the pandemic has brought, we still managed to fight with the help of the frontliners that were the ones who fought for us all. May our Christmas be merry, joyous, and happy. May we follow the light of Christmas and may the pandemic end. Christmas season has found its way out of the bad times and may we also be like it.
